Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) has retracted her comments that the California Senate primary race she lost was fraudulent.
Rep. Katie Porter said she regrets claiming billionaires tried to „rig“ California's Senate primary after failing to advance to the general election.
„Obviously, I should have chosen different words,“ Porter, D-Calif., said on Tuesday's episode of „Pod Save America.“

„In my opinion, I do not intend to suggest at any time or in any way that there is anything other than a careful, thoughtful and remarkable electoral system that should actually be a model for much of this country.“ she added.
Porter immediately came under fire from Democrats for using Trump-like language to suggest that the election, which did not go his way, was rigged.
On the other hand, Congressman Porter's disappointment is understandable. Her general election run against fellow Democrat Adam Schiff seemed completely assured. But the primary calculus changed when MAGA Republican Steve Garvey joined the primary.
Schiff's campaign likely ran ads supporting Garvey and drew some Republicans to the polls who otherwise wouldn't have voted, but it would still have given Porter an advantage. . In its closing argument to primary voters, Porter's campaign decided to focus on climate change rather than the economy, democracy, or the Dobbs decision. It was a choice that didn't pay off as well as the campaign had hoped.
Porter will not run for Congress, but could be part of a second Biden administration if the president is re-elected, or could seek a return to the House within two years.
Katie Porter is a talented public servant who, despite her disappointing moments and regrettable words, will soon be back in service to the public.
