Iowa's Caitlin Clark declared for the WNBA Draft today, waiving her final year of eligibility, she confirmed in a post on her social media accounts.
„While this season is not over yet and there are still many goals to accomplish, this will be my last season at Iowa,“ Clark said in the post. “I cannot express my gratitude enough to everyone who supported me during my time at Iowa, to my teammates who made the past four years the best they could be. „The coaches, trainers and staff who made it happen. The Hawkeye fans who filled Carver every night. And everyone, especially the young kids, who came from all over the country to support us.“
Clark is one of the most dominant women's college basketball players in recent history. In her four years, Clark won many awards and titles and broke countless records. Most recently, she surpassed Kelsey Plumb (3,527 total points) for the most points in NCAA Division I women's basketball history, and even more recently surpassed Lynette Woodward's total (3,649 points) for the most points in major college women's basketball history. ) exceeded. Clark currently trails Pete Maravich's all-time scoring record at the men's and women's NCAA DI levels by 17 points with one game remaining in her regular season.
In addition to her scoring ability, Clark was named the Naismith Women's College Athlete of the Year in 2023, won the John R. Wooden Award, and won the ESPY's Best Female Collegiate Athlete Award.
Iowa currently sits in second place in the Big Ten and is trying to qualify for the March Madness Tournament, where Clark has yet to collect the hardware. The closest she came to winning a national championship was last season, when the Hawkeyes lost to LSU in the finals.
The WNBA draft will be held on April 15th, and many believe Clark, who plays for the Indiana Fever, will be selected No. 1 overall.
