Approximately 11 years since the first appearance The current humanoid robot, Boston Dynamics, is retiring from Atlas. The DARPA-funded robot was designed with search and rescue missions in mind, with the idea of allowing humans to enter unsafe areas and perform a variety of tasks. But Atlas has become something of a star thanks to a video showcasing it. and impressive feats of strength, agility, and balance. Fittingly, Atlas trots off into the sunset.
„For almost a decade, Atlas has fueled our imaginations, inspired the next generation of roboticists, and catapulted the field's technological barriers,“ the YouTube description reads. There is. „Now it's time for the hydraulic Atlas robot to sit back and relax.“
Boston Dynamics' parting ways with Atlas are just part of the story. A robot can do it. It's also a bit of a failed reel. In addition to tossing a tool bag and jumping between platforms, the clip also shows Atlas slipping, stumbling, and falling over and over again, which oddly makes him look more human.
Of course, Boston Dynamics' lineup also includes more commercially successful robots. . However, this does not seem to be the complete end of the company's humanoid robot product line. “Take a look back at everything we’ve accomplished on the Atlas platform so far,” the farewell video description reads. His last two words suggest that Boston Dynamics hasn't quite completed that aspect of robotics yet.
Engadget contacted the company for details on its future humanoid robot development plans. For now, it looks like Atlas may be looking for a dance partner for Wednesday afternoons at a robotic nursing home.
