Elon Musk recently revealed plans to bring video capabilities to Spaces, X (formerly Twitter)'s live audio conversation feature. Musk said the new feature is expected to be released by the end of the year, or early next year at the latest.
Regarding functionality, Musk explained that adding video is easy and users can turn video on and off during a Spaces session. Additionally, if there are multiple speakers, the video feed will automatically switch to the person currently speaking, similar to common video conferencing platforms such as Google Meet.
Musk emphasized the importance of incorporating video, saying observing body language enhances communication. He believes that by seeing the speaker's face and body language, you can convey more information and foster deeper connections during live conversations.
By integrating video into their spaces, X aims to provide users with a comprehensive platform to engage with their audience without the need for external services. It is worth noting that X had previously introduced a live video broadcast feature similar to Facebook Live and Instagram Live services.
The Spaces feature was initially positioned as a competitor to Clubhouse when it was introduced in 2021, and gained popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
