MANILA, Philippines – Every day, Rosey Ramos lifts a barbell that's more than three times her body weight.
Now, all that hard work paid off on Monday during the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup as the 20-year-old from Zamboanga City earned a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics. I knew that if I remained in the top 10 after this tournament, I would be able to go to Paris,” Ramos told the Inquirer in Filipino.
She secured first place in the women's 49kg group B division with a snatch of 87kg, clean and jerk of 103kg, and a total lift of 190kg, ensuring a spot in the competition.

The Olympic qualifying tournament, which is being held in Phuket, Thailand, from April 2 to April 11, is the last remaining route to the glamorous French capital.
Ramos, the current Asian junior champion in the women's 49kg weight class, only needed to maintain her current position in the Summer Games rankings to qualify for Paris. She currently ranks eighth in the Olympic rankings after five qualifying tournaments.
Other Olympians
She finished in 7th place at the 2023 IWF World Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 5th place at the 2023 Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China. He finished in 9th place at the Asian Championships held in Jinju, South Korea last year.
The top 10 in each weight class qualify for the Olympics.
„All the hard work has paid off. I'm going to Paris,“ Ramos said. Training at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex is closely monitored by coach Tony Agustin.
Samahan Weightlifting NG Pilipinas president Monico Puentevera said Agustín was in charge of most of Ramos' training during his build-up, while Janeth Alo was in charge of his nutrition.

Ramos is now part of an elite group of Filipino athletes headed to the French capital, along with pole vaulter EJ Obiena, gymnasts Carlos Yuro and Alea Finnegan, and boxers Eumil Marcial, Ayla Villegas and Nessie Petecio. .
„I still have a goal for a specific lift where I can compete with the top in that weight class. I've been working on it every day and I'd like to achieve my goal at the Olympics, if possible,“ Ramos said.
