The French players' union UNFP has announced the nominees for Ligue 1's Young Player of the Year award.
It was a surprise to see one of AS Monaco's players nominated for the award this season. Elies Ben Segir is widely known as an extraordinarily talented prospect, but he has only played 273 minutes all season.
Rayan Cherki, on the other hand, has played 275 minutes this season in the Coupe de France alone. It's surprising that Olympique Lyonnais chose an attacking midfielder like Ben Seguil. Cherki has mostly struggled to find consistent form this season.
Désiré Douai has made further strides this season, which has been recognized by his fellow professionals, and he is a worthy candidate, but if he won the award ahead of the next You'd be surprised if you did.
Lenny Yoro and Warren Zaire Emery appear to be on the path to very successful careers. The two young players are considered favorites to win Young Player of the Season after impressive seasons with Lille OSC and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
