Stephen Colbert said on „The Late Show“ that Trump needs to be put in jail, responding to a judge's threat to lock up the former president.
Don’t miss Sarah Jones’ essay on Kristi Noem, “Predatory is the Point.” The Daily.
Colbert said:
Before testimony resumed today, Judge Marchan finally ruled on the violation and fined Trump $9,000. Now I know. $9,000 may not seem like a lot to a successful businessman, but what about Trump? The judge lamented that this is the maximum legal fine and warned that if Trump continues to violate the gag order, prison may become a necessary punishment.
I don't know if Trump needs it, but I need it.
Now, when testimony resumed, we got a glimpse of Trump's defense team's overall defense. That means Trump didn't have sex with any of the women he paid for their silence. So he paid his wife hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep her from finding out he was cheating on her. „Melania, I know this is hard for you to hear, but you're not the only woman I haven't had sex with.“ Got it?

Colbert isn't the only one who wants to see Trump in prison. Judging by the reaction of many Americans, it seems like they too can't wait to see Trump in prison. Donald Trump seems to have a hard time attending this trial every day.
Trump's defense is ridiculous, but it's also the same defense he's used every time he's been caught doing something over the past nine years. Mr. Trump has always maintained that he did not know who was involved in the scandal and that he was not involved, if at all.
If Trump is convicted of a felony in New York, he is expected to face some form of jail time. Legal experts believe President Trump will not go to prison and will be sentenced to house arrest.
In any case, the American people as a whole will be happier if Trump is jailed.
