This week, former Democratic candidate for Georgia governor Stacey Abrams appeared on MSNBC to discuss what the Democratic Party's strategy should be for 2024. Naturally, topics of race, elections, and democracy came up.
Ms. Abrams detailed what she believes is one of the greatest threats to democracy. Instead of naming the left's usual suspect of threats to democracy, Donald Trump, Abrams chose another threat.
Stacey Abrams says there has been a recent surge in denial of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across American institutions that threatens to dismantle democracy. Let's see if she has any value to her argument.
DEI is hard to kill
Like many progressives, Stacey Abrams is frustrated by recent moves by Republican governors to close DEI offices.Stacey Abrams during an interview with Al Sharpton Said:
“What we know is that an attack on diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI, is an attack on democracy, and an attack on education…”
Ms. Abrams' statement said closing DEI offices on college campuses could hinder educational progress and destroy democracy. The reality of what DEI is doing for education and democracy is very different.

Unfortunately, even with steps taken to stamp out DEI in states like Florida and Texas, harmful ideology still has a firm grip on higher education by the throat.
The following is sampling An overview of current DEI hiring requirements at various universities:
- Suffolk University is seeking a civil rights professor with experience in „the intersection of law and race, gender, and sexual orientation.“ Additionally, candidates must explain how they will advance the school's „commitment to diversity and inclusion through education, scholarship, and service.“
- Syracuse is seeking a director of „academic and legal success“ who will focus on fostering „diversity and inclusive excellence.“
- UCLA Law seeks professors who have experience supporting „equity and diversity“ and are required to submit a „public statement of their commitment to diversity.“
- NYU Law is seeking academics to “lead new DEI defense initiatives” on campus.
It's hard to argue that DEI is disappearing in educational settings, even though it's still prevalent in university hiring practices.
american nightmare
In making the case for DEI ideology, Abrams cited two fellow liberals as evidence that DEI works. She went on to say that the attacks on DEI are:
„…It's an attack on the way our economy works because what Senators Ossoff and Warnock represent is the path to the American Dream…“
Removing the names of two senators associated with groups considered marginalized as examples of the “American Dream” is evidence that DEI is delivering the same for all Americans. It won't. Indeed, in President Joe Biden's economy, many millennials and young people are giving up on the American Dream.
Owning a home has never been more expensive. Saving for retirement becomes even more difficult as inflation rates exceed monthly wage income.
DEI initiatives do not create a path to the American Dream. Rather, they divide Americans into convenient demographic categories, creating population segregation.
In most cases, these categories are broadly defined as the favored minority groups at the time. Meanwhile, everyone else becomes an oppressor because they don't fit in or follow the line.
Take the story of David Porter, a professor of statistics at North Carolina State University.he was there punished For voicing DEI concerns within his field and department.
Or Elizabeth Weiss, professor of anthropology at San Jose State University.she was locked out She was criticized by her department for daring to defy the DEI cult.
DEI is not used to unite or uplift people. It is used to identify and eradicate opponents.

painful proof point
Mr. Abrams went on to argue that Senators Ossoff and Warnock:
“…Those who want to make this world small and restrictive are frightened by the evidence and the evidence.”
Since Ms. Abrams brings up points of evidence, it is only natural that I bring up some of my own evidence. The 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) delivered grim results.
Only 22% of 8th graders Skilled Only 13% are knowledgeable about civics and familiar with U.S. history.recorded by the same grade lowest Over the past 10 years, students' grades in math and reading improved.
Looking at undergraduate students, 67% of major universities I need Students are required to take some form of DEI course, regardless of their desired field of study. However, according to recent information, Campus expression surveya record number of students are reluctant to discuss controversial issues in courses where the topic is relevant.
- 47% are reluctant to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict
- 45% are reluctant to discuss politics
- 30% are reluctant to talk about religion
Some might say that when opponents of DEI say they want to make the world “smaller and more restrictive,” it’s like “the pot turning the kettle black.” There is nothing more narrow-minded and restrictive than DEI.
wise words
Stacey Abrams shares her thoughts on DEI:
“We must remember that every victory has built-in the seeds of defeat, and every defeat has built-in the seeds of victory.”
The eloquent words of the great Prime Minister Winston Churchill. It's ironic that the most prolific election denier of our time would offer wisdom on how best to deal with defeat.
Either way, she's right. Conservatives and those who believe in freedom of thought and diversity should be careful not to rest on their laurels on the few victories they have achieved against DEI.
DEI is here to stay, whether or not dedicated DEI offices remain open. It is very similar to a terrorist virus. It is built on hatred, and if there is one thing humanity has proven to be adept at, it is hatred.
DEI is an attack on democracy, and its tenacity has undermined every American institution. Sorry, Stacey, but as Elon Musk pointed out, DEI must disappear for democracy to flourish again.
