A powerful storm system brought tornadoes, rain and hail to the central United States Monday night, with several days of severe weather expected.
Cars piled up on highways from Texas to Kentucky, and there were reports of damage to homes, trees and power lines as a sandstorm dumped hailstones the size of golf balls in some areas.
Forecasters said the strong storms could continue into Tuesday and continue into Wednesday.
After hitting parts of Texas, Illinois and Oklahoma, the weather system will move southward, spreading out from northern Indiana and Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
The risk of tornadoes extends from southeastern Indiana to all of Ohio and parts of Kentucky, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, the Storm Prediction Center said. prediction.
More than 50 million Americans from Dallas to Cincinnati were under severe weather warnings on Monday.
Tornado warnings had been issued for parts of Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, but they expired Monday night.

Officials reported storm damage in the town of Barnsdall, Oklahoma, northwest of Tulsa.

Multiple people injured in crash during severe storms in Texas
