Self-driving delivery startup Nuro has entered into a strategic partnership with safety-focused software company Foretellix to enhance virtual testing of self-driving systems, with the aim of streamlining R&D costs while advancing self-driving technology. It has been concluded.
The partnership, which is expected to be officially announced, comes after two layoffs in the past 18 months, despite securing significant funding from high-profile investors including Baillie Gifford, Fidelity Management & Research Company, and Google. It has been a difficult period for Nuro. In May 2023, Nuro underwent a restructuring that shifted its focus away from its planned commercial operations.
Nuro's decision to partner with Foretellix comes at a time when autonomous vehicles (AVs) are marked by major changes, including layoffs at GM's self-driving subsidiary Cruise, TuSimple's exit from the U.S. market, and Argo AI's fall 2022 shutdown. Consistent with broader industry trends.
Founded in 2018 and backed by Toyota and Nvidia, Foretellix specializes in verification and verification software, generating millions of scenarios to efficiently test autonomous systems. Unlike in-house solutions, Foretellix's software automatically analyzes drive logs from Nuro's test vehicles and replays those drives in simulation, significantly increasing productivity. This feature allows Nuro's automated system to adapt to different versions of driving scenarios without the time-consuming process of recreating them in the real world.
Foretellix has previously partnered with Volvo Group and Torc Robotics, and raised $43 million in its latest funding round in December. Although financial details of the partnership with Nuro were not disclosed, Foretellix CEO Ziv Binyamini emphasized that the partnership will play an important role in his Nuro development process, and will help advance the evolution of self-driving technology. demonstrated the value of advanced simulation in
