Republican election officials across the country have formed a group to push back against President Donald Trump's efforts to undermine confidence in U.S. elections.

Mr. Sterling, chief operating officer of the Georgia Secretary of State's office, is part of an effort begun after the last presidential election to bring together Republican officials willing to protect the nation's election system and its people. the person running them. They have called on authorities to reinforce the message that the election is secure and accurate, arguing that this approach is especially important as the country heads toward another divisive presidential election.
The group has held meetings in several states, with more planned before the Nov. 5 election.
…
“This is in no way, and never will be, specific to Mr. Trump,” said Matt Garmer, director of governance at the R Street Institute and lead organizer of the effort. „It's about higher-level democratic principles. What does it mean to be a conservative who believes in democracy, the rule of law?“
The efforts by Republican election officials may not be specifically about Trump, but they are a response to lies that have been and are being spread by the former president.
This group's work is a good reminder that not all Republicans are election-denying MAGAs. As the nation saw in 2020, some Republicans at the state level put democracy first and do not want to buy into President Trump's efforts to destroy the foundations of American governance.
The efforts of Republicans in states like Kentucky, Kansas, Georgia and Utah, combined with Democrats who also support election protections, form a state-level firewall against President Trump's election lies.
Democracy is bigger than partisan politics, and if enough people come together to protect democracy, there will still be a country in the future where policy differences can be freely debated.
