Military recruitment has been abysmal in recent years, and the U.S. military appears to be the most struggling of all militaries. A discussion of why fewer and fewer young Americans are raising their right hand due to a competitive labor market, a lack of qualified young Americans, and, of course, everyone's favorite scapegoat, the coronavirus. .
However, according to recent data analysis, Military.com revealed an interesting trend of decline in certain segments of the U.S. Army. The numbers don't lie…young white Americans are less interested in joining the military than they used to be.
The question is…why?
In terms of numbers
Military.com looked into the U.S. Army's recruiting data and found something shocking. Over the past five years, recruitment of white soldiers has declined significantly.
They found that not only had their numbers declined, but the decline in white recruits was directly responsible for much of the overall recruiting downturn felt by the Army. In 2018, there were 44,042 white Army recruits.
In 2023, only 25,070 of the Army's new recruits were white, and the data shows a 6% decline in recruitment of white soldiers from 2022 to 2023. Overall, the Army fell a whopping 10,000 people short of its 2023 hiring goal of 65,000.

The article points out that:
“Internally, some Army planners are alarmed by trends in the data, given the growing partisan attacks on the military as it seeks to recruit and support a diverse force. We think this is a minefield that needs to be addressed.”
Just imagine? Given all the claims that the Pentagon is „woke,“ the negative press coverage of the Army may be justified if it is to survive a significant shortage of white recruits.
It's because I woke up
For years, military heads and Pentagon leaders have long believed that the military is not all that „woke“ and that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts are the reason for such low hiring numbers. I have been claiming that there is no.
However, an anonymous Army official told Military.com:
„No, younger applicants don't care about that. But older people who have a lot of influence in their lives do…“
An anonymous source continued:
„In parts of conservative America, there exists a level of prestige where the service has been degraded. Now you can say you don't want to participate, for whatever reason, or badmouth the service, but , for the first time in these areas, there is no need to feel cultural guilt.”

Let's explore that theory. Why is it socially and culturally acceptable in a traditionally conservative family to speak ill of the U.S. military and try to dissuade family members from enlisting? Let's count the reasons:
- No clear military victory achieved after World War II
- Endless wars without purpose – see Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, etc.
- Shameful withdrawal from Afghanistan
- 13 service members die needlessly during Afghanistan withdrawal
- Lack of responsibility by military leadership for repeated failures
- poor, unhealthy and dangerous living conditions
- epidemic of sexual assault
- White Privilege and White Guilt Training
- Advertisement targeting far-left new employees
- Percentage of military personnel experiencing food insecurity
I could go on but there is a character limit so I won't.
terrible timing
another army official Said Military.com on the slump in recruitment of white soldiers:
„What we see reflects society. What we don't know much about is what's driving all of this.“
This text is as clear as ever about what is causing the lack of interest in military service overall, especially among white Americans. The military is meant to be a cohesive team or unit.
No one wants to be part of a team where they are told that they are inherently inferior or inferior to their fellow soldiers just because of the color of their skin. Interestingly, racism tends to be frowned upon by most people. And in this country we knew it too.
At a fundamental, foundational level, the Department of Defense is broken and requires a major overhaul. yesterday This is mainly due to rising tensions around the world due to the government's ambiguous foreign policy.Number of active military personnel in all services Diminished With an increase of 64,000 troops over the past three years to 1,284,500, our military is at its smallest strength since World War II.
As a former senior military leader, I can tell you that it is not a good strategic position to embark on a situation where various conflicts are brewing. But what I do know is…I'm just a white veteran who hopes his kids don't join a broken military.
