Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hit back at opposition parties over comments he made about his „family“, giving leadership to the Indian bloc as the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) looks set to return to power. He said the men had begun to „abuse“ the prime minister.
“The INDI alliance leaders are crazy because the NDA is certain to return to power. So they started abusing Modi. The INDI alliance leaders are talking about my family. I asked and said I am against familism because I don't have a family. They want to know about my family. They should come here and see. I am in this program. 's sisters are Modi ka parivar. These people are Mr. Modi's family,'' the Prime Minister said while addressing a 'Nari Shakti' rally in Barasat in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.
„All the mothers and daughters of Bengal are my family. When PM Modi has any problem, these women, sisters, daughters stand up as a shield to protect me…one of the best in this country. 40 million people are my family,“ he said.
Significantly, Lalu Prasad Yadav, speaking at the Indian bloc's rally in Patna on Sunday, hit back at Modi's accusations of dynastic politics against opposition parties, including the RJD. „If Narendra Modi doesn't have a family of his own, what can we do?“ Yadav said.
To counter the RJD patriarch's personal attacks on Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party has launched the 'Modi Ka Parivar' campaign.
After the rally in Barasat, the Prime Minister met a group of women from Sandeshkari, which is facing sexual abuse allegations against Trinamool Congress leaders. He guaranteed safety and justice to women.
„Whatever happened to the women of Sandeshkali, it is shameful. TMC is trying to shield the accused. But the storm that started in Sandeshkali does not stop at this island, it will reach every corner of Bengal. „That will be the case,“ Prime Minister Modi said.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday took custody of Shahjahan Sheikh, the main accused in the case of sexual brutality against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkari in North 24 Parganas district.
Shajahan, who had been on the run, was arrested by West Bengal police on February 29 on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker during a raid earlier this year. Following his arrest, the ruling Trinamool Congress suspended the strongman from party activities for six years.
