India will vote to choose the next government from April 19th, with the election commission in the world's largest democracy beginning the voting process and the results announced on June 4th.
According to the schedule released by the Election Commission on Saturday, the Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases from April to early June. The first phase will begin on April 19th and conclude with the seventh and final phase on June 1st.
According to the EC, nearly 970 million Indians will be eligible to vote in this year's Lok Sabha elections. The pollster also reported that more than 2 billion young voters between the ages of 18 and 29 were added to the voter list.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that as there are over 10.5 million polling stations across the country, around 1.5 million officials will be working to conduct the general elections.
