Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming animated remake of Norman Lear’s classic 1970s TV sitcom Good Times.
The animated series features JB Smoove, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jay Pharoah, Slink Johnson, Marsai Martin, and Wanda Sykes as descendants of the Evans family and supporting cast.
Good Times is executive produced by NBA star Stephen Curry, Norman Lear, and Seth MacFarlane.
It’s important to note that Netflix’s animated Good Times is not a series about a loving, supportive family facing hardships in the projects.
This new version of Good Times is a parody that reinforces negative stereotypes of the Black community.

The animated series includes controversial elements like a drug-dealing baby, profanity, and other negative portrayals of Black stereotypes.
This is blatant disrespect. Everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves. Everyone.

Viewers are expressing their disappointment and concern about the direction of the series and its negative impact on the Black community. Some are calling for Netflix to reconsider remaking other classic shows like The Cosby Show or The Jeffersons.
Good Times season 1 with 10 episodes is set to premiere on Netflix on April 12.
One Twitter user questioned the choice to portray such negative stereotypes in the remake of the show, sparking a conversation about representation in media.

Y’all thought you were slick making this the next generation like that is so terrible. Imagine watching the Evans family suffer terribly, the father work himself into the grave and see their descendants still in the ghetto.
