This is a very good book written by Annie Jacobsen. What would happen if a nuclear weapon were actually launched against the United States? On the ground? In the chain of command? Organizationally or otherwise? Good book, unfortunately still useful. It's full of drama and tactically astute throughout. excerpt:
Ted Postol is blunt. “Russian early warning satellites do not work accurately,” he says. „Russia, as a nation, does not have the technical know-how to build systems as good as the United States.“ This means that „satellites cannot look straight at the Earth,“ known as the lookdown capability. It is a technique that can be used. As a result, Russia's Tundra satellites are „looking sideways“ and „their ability to distinguish between things like sunlight and fire is impaired,“ Postol warned.
A particular problem is how to view tundra clouds.
