Many Republicans have long had problems with Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, especially for undermining conservative policies.
But come November, he no longer seems to be a problem.
He is resigning.
In Congress since 1985
Aside from manipulating some seats on the Supreme Court, conservatives' existential woes will shift to other business.
Associated Press report„Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving Senate majority leader in history who held power in the face of dramatic Republican upheaval for nearly two decades, will step down from his position in November.“
The story continued:
„Mr. McConnell, who turned 82 last week, was scheduled to announce his decision Wednesday at the Well of the Senate, the same place he watched in awe from the back benches when he arrived in the Senate in 1985. „And now I have an increasingly comfortable front-row seat,'' he told party leaders.'' AP I got it.
The senator was under increasing pressure from opposition and sometimes hostile elements of his party that have been staunchly aligned with Trump.
But while the voices criticizing McConnell within the Republican conference have grown louder, they have not grown much in number, reflecting McConnell's strategic and tactical savvy and understanding of the needs of his fellow Republican senators. It shows a high level of ability to
McConnell did not give specific reasons for the timing of his decision, which he has been mulling over for months, but cited the recent death of his wife's youngest sister as a moment of introspection. „The end of my contribution is closer than I would have liked,“ McConnell said.
That last part will be music to the ears of many conservative voters.
Why doesn't he resign now?
Federalist Sean Davis makes a good point.
Why doesn't McConnell resign now? Is he just staying there to thwart Trump and his policies?
McConnell's last big move was to work with Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to put together a bill that would give Ukraine billions more without securing its borders.

What kind of conservatism is that?
Mitch McConnell has dedicated all of his time as Republican Senate leader to weakening conservatives wherever possible.
It's a very good extermination. A change in leadership has been long overdue.
He can't leave right away.
