David Moyes, who helped West Ham United win the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, ending the club's 43-year trophy drought, will step down as manager when his contract expires in June.
west ham announced On Monday, they mutually agreed to part ways.
Julen Lopetegui, who resigned as Wolverhampton manager in August and became a free agent, is widely expected to replace Moyes on a permanent basis.
West Ham said: „By making this announcement now, David can receive a well-deserved send-off from West Ham supporters and we can all show our appreciation to him in our final home game of the season against Luton Town on Saturday. I can do it.'' Co-chairman David Sullivan said in a statement:
Moyes was in charge of the Hammers for four-and-a-half seasons after returning for a second time in 2019. The Scotsman took over with the club in the depths of a relegation battle, but after lifting them from the bottom of the table and establishing some defensive discipline, he returned to Europe. West Ham finished 6th and 7th in the following two seasons.
Although the club slipped to 14th place last season, their achievements in Europe more than made up for their struggles domestically, with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final.
This season has not been very successful. West Ham won just three games in the 2024 Premier League, losing to Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League quarter-finals. They lost to second division Bristol City in the third round of the FA Cup, and lost to Liverpool in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Lopetegui, who has been rumored to be his successor, has extensive experience having coached the Spanish national team and Real Madrid. In 2020, he led Sevilla to Europa League glory, defeating Inter Milan. Lopetegui's time at Wolves ended amid reports of a power struggle with the board over lack of reinforcements.
