Google Drive for iOS now lets you filter your searches using drop-down menus by file type, owner, and last modified date. I wrote this on the Workspace Updates blog on Friday.. Drop-down menus appear before and after a search, displaying user input as well as related filter recommendations.
Google says the update is available to Google Workspace customers and individual subscribers, as well as anyone with a personal Google Account on iOS. The feature hasn't yet rolled out to Android users, but Google says it's on the way.
Here's a screen recording I made to show how this works.
New filter updates make it easier to search and browse files, even if you don't know where they are. For example, if you know you're looking for a video stored in Drive but don't know its name, tap the Video file type and select Custom Range under Last Changed. to search for the saved period. I touched on it last. I hope this is updated to allow filtering by other types of dates and file sizes.
This is a significant improvement over Google's previous approach, which included filter suggestions and swipeable filters. As it turns out, dropdown menus are still the best choice. Who would have thought?
