A group of House Republicans wants to rename a prominent airport in the Washington, D.C., area after former President Donald Trump.
So reimagine Washington Dulles International Airport as „Donald Trump International Airport.“
„Donald J. Trump International Airport“
The effort is being led by Deputy House Majority Leader Guy Reschenthaler. His bill would put Trump's name on Washington Dulles International Airport.
from Town Hall, „If the bill's concise language can get through the rest of the legislative machinations in Washington, D.C., the name change will become official and „requires no law, regulation, map, document, paper, or other reference.'' „U.S. records'' to IAD are „considered a reference to Donald J. Trump International Airport.''
Reschenthaler explained the reasoning behind the bill in an interview. fox news.
“Never in my lifetime has our country been greater under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump. Millions of domestic and international travelers use this airport to reach American soil. Nothing symbolizes freedom, prosperity and strength more than hearing 'Welcome to Trump International Airport' as you land.“
The bill is co-sponsored by House Republicans Michael Walz, Andy Ogles, Chuck Fleischman, Paul Gosar, Barry Moore, and Troy Neals. It was introduced on March 29th.
When “National” Airport became “Ronald Reagan” Airport
There is clearly precedent for this, as many airports are named after presidents, but in the Washington, DC area, the main airport known as „Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport“ was previously simply „National Airport.“ ” was called.
The name change was made in 1998 through efforts by Republican lawmakers. It was originally promoted by conservative activist Grover Norquist.
Republican Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott Said At the time, he said, „History will clearly show that he is one of the two great presidents of this century, and in my opinion the greatest president ever. That's President Ronald Reagan riding off into the sunset.“
The name change was a gift to former President Ronald Reagan on his 87th birthday. This change was as controversial at the time as the attempt to rename Dulles Airport for the 45th president.
But could Donald Trump soon receive the same honor as Ronald Reagan?
