The tweet comes as Musk postponed a much-anticipated visit to India, where he was to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, by several months, citing his heavy responsibilities at Tesla.
„Unfortunately, due to Tesla's very heavy commitments my visit to India has to be postponed, but I am very much looking forward to visiting later this year,“ the Tesla CEO posted on X on April 20. He was reportedly scheduled to visit India on April 21 and 22 to announce investment plans in the country.
Meanwhile, the prime minister has been quite bullish about the future of electric vehicles in India, and during a gruelling six-week election campaign he has emphasised India's role in a once-in-a-century transformation in mobility.
Green mobility was also mentioned in his victory speech at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on June 4.
In March, India cut customs duties on electric vehicles to 15% from 70-100% on the condition that global automakers invest at least $500 million to set up factories in the country. High import taxes have proven to be a hurdle for Tesla's expansion into India.
