About the role:
The Communications Officer will be an experienced communications strategist (3+ years of experience) who will work closely with Greenpeace Canada's campaign, digital, mobilization, and other program and fundraising staff to increase GP visibility and visibility. Develop and implement communication strategies to improve Win your support base and campaign.
The primary focus of this position is to deliver impactful Greenpeace campaigns and organizational communications by identifying media, public relations, and engagement opportunities. Provide advice on strategic communications related to those opportunities. Main responsibilities:
- Use storytelling techniques to raise your organization's profile, engage and mobilize your supporters, and reframe your campaign's issues.
- Lead the development of a comprehensive communications strategy within the assigned campaign area, formulating objectives and creating a framework that includes the use of traditional, digital, and multimedia channels.
- Build productive relationships with various news organizations and journalists.
- Advance GPC's mobilization strategy by actively seeking opportunities to highlight and expand the work of Greenpeace and its supporters nationally and internationally.
- Provide strategic advice, materials, and media relations for reactive and crisis communications as needed. Write press releases, statements, op-eds, blog posts, and other media and social media materials as needed. Prepare key messages, background information, Q&A, and other communication support materials.
- Proofread and edit a variety of materials for grammar, style, tone, messaging, accuracy, and more. Before submitting for final approval, please review the material for compliance with our policies to strengthen the reliability and accuracy of communications.
- Manage design and translation requests and proofread/edit translated copy as needed.
