Let's be honest: When you play a VR game, it's not meant to be a broad experience.i wore meta quest A headset for Beat Saber and other short but fun games. But near the end of 2023, Asgard's Wrath 2 came out and blew all my preconceptions away. The game was a meaty, replayable RPG with beautiful graphics, fun puzzles, and an actual story that hooked me and kept me interested enough to play more. This is definitely my favorite VR game I've played in the last year.
Asgard's Wrath 2 follows Loki, the Norse god he betrayed in the previous game, to Egypt. With a little help from the local gods, the player's character controls several mortals, each with their own story. Perhaps this speaks to my own bias towards VR games, but I was once again perplexed by the scope of this title. This is a game you can easily pick up and leave, but it can easily take dozens of hours to complete.
Graphically, it might not be the most impressive game released in 2023, and the colors can sometimes burn your eyes. However, my dissatisfaction is limited to this for now (I haven't finished the game yet). The Asgard's Wrath 2 we've seen so far has been a lot of fun, but it's going to take quite a while for his 2024 VR game to top it.
What else happened this week?
Xbox Developer Direct took place this week, and several studios gave us detailed information about their upcoming games. Of all of them, what impressed me the most was Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, if they didn't clone Tomb Raider/Uncharted for any other reason. Lara Croft and Nathan Drake may be Indy's spiritual descendants, but he's capable of running a different kind of game. In case you're not sure, I don't care if the game is first-person. In fact, I love it.
Of the remaining direct matches, Admitted Seems to be right up my alley. If you learned about Obsidian years later, it would be a gorgeous, innovative, and fun RPG with at least some junk sprinkled in for fun. I also think I need to go back and replay Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. That way you can remember what exactly happened before moving on. sequel later this year.
In personal news, Mike Minotti praised without exaggerating Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown — That game has taken up so much of my time over the past few weeks that I've had little time for anything else. That being said, I'm hoping to finish it soon so I can pour my heart and soul into Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth as much as possible — given what happened, the story is I'm most looking forward to seeing how things progress with The Man Who Erased and Tekken 8.
